Licenses

This page lists the third-party material this website and its templates are built from, the licence each one comes with, and what that means for a site we deliver to you. The versions are those installed in the code when this page was written.

1. The software this site runs on

Each of these components remains under its own licence. Their licence texts and copyright notices are included in the packages themselves and are available on request at contact@oracleyes.com.

2. Typefaces

Every typeface on this site is embedded in the site itself and served from our own server; no font is downloaded from a third party when you visit.

IBM Plex MonoSIL Open Font License 1.1
Instrument SerifSIL Open Font License 1.1
OutfitSIL Open Font License 1.1
Space GroteskSIL Open Font License 1.1

The SIL Open Font License allows these fonts to be used, embedded and shared in a website. It does not allow a font to be sold on its own. The names and copyright of the font designers stay with them.

3. Photographs in our demonstrations

The 21 photographs used in our template demonstrations come from Burst, the free stock-photo library of Shopify. Under its licence, a photograph may be adapted and used free of charge for commercial and non-commercial purposes, without attribution to the photographer, Shopify or Burst. The licence does not allow the photographs to be sold as files or in any other form, or to be offered for sale in any way.

For that reason, a site we deliver to you does not carry our demonstration photographs. It carries your own photographs, or images whose licence you hold or that we obtain in your name and list at handover.

4. Templates, arrangements and styles

The templates, page arrangements and graphic styles shown on this site, and the code that draws them, are our own work. We keep our rights in them. When you buy a site, you receive a licence to the parts embedded in it, on the terms of clause 8 of the Terms of Service.

5. Preview content is invented

Every business name, person, price, review and date in a template, a preview or a demonstration on this site is invented. It illustrates a look; it is not a real business, a real client or a real result. Names and trademarks of third parties that appear on this site belong to their owners and are used only to say what they are.

6. What a delivered site contains

A site we deliver is made from a master template and standard components. At handover we give you a licence schedule that lists every third-party component in it, with its licence and one of two statuses:

  • Transferable: the licence lets you keep and use the component after handover (for example open-source software such as WordPress under the GNU General Public Licence, and fonts under the SIL Open Font License). These pass to you with their own terms, which you must respect.
  • Not transferable: the licence belongs to an account of ours or a subscription that cannot be passed on (for example a paid plugin or a theme licensed to one account). We tell you which, what it costs to obtain your own licence, and what stops working if you do not.

Our rule is that a delivered site uses free components by default, and that we build a solution ourselves rather than ask you to pay for an extension. Where a paid subscription cannot be avoided (a server, hosting, a domain name, a third-party service), it is written in the Statement of Work with its price, you validate it by signing, and it is taken out in your own name once the tests are validated. The site is installed with the hosting provider you choose, in your name. You receive a perpetual licence to the code we wrote ourselves, as clause 8.4 of the Terms of Service says. After the test period, that code and the site are yours to run.

We do not include a component in a delivered site if its licence forbids that use. If a licence requires attribution, we place it in the site and in the schedule.

7. Your content

Texts, images, logos, trademarks and data that you supply remain yours. You promise that you hold the rights to use them in your site, as the Terms of Service say.

8. Reporting a licence problem

If you believe material on this site or in a site we delivered is used outside its licence, write to contact@oracleyes.com with the details. We will look at it promptly and remove or replace the material if it is unlicensed.
